We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Is there a better Fourth of July treat than a classic ice cream cone? We think not! In honor of our nation's birthday AND National Ice Cream month, we're sharing this sweet project from food stylist Emma Feigenbaum and photographer Susan Pittard. We caught up with Emma and asked her all about the project and what she and Susan hoped to capture.

Big Leo: What was the goal of the project?

Emma Feigenbaum: Susan Pittard and I really wanted to create images that were both a bit unexpected, but still well executed. We wanted to make something that was representational editorially, but a little rustic and fun.

BL: These definitely turned out fun! Did you make the ice cream yourself?

EF: I didn't make the ice cream! Sometimes it's worth it (especially for unusual flavors) but store-bought ice creams tend to scoop better, as they often contain stabilizers.

BL: What was the most fun aspect of the shoot?

EF: The most fun part of the shoot was making a mess! I love breaking things, subverting the norm, and really "going all the way" with my style. When I'm shooting for "messy" I don't like to see overly styled "messy" shots, to me they look very contrived, so this was fun, as I got to really mess around.
